Question for agency recruiters.
When was the last time you really ran?
200 metre sprint, as fast as your legs could take you, like something important was at stake. Deep breaths afterwards, sweat on the back of your neck, dry throat and the feeling that you pushed yourself and gave everything you had, 100% – nothing less.
Unless you train as a runner, I would wager you haven’t.
It’s been so long that you can’t remember the last time you ran at all
(Parents race on Sports Day for those with kids was probably it).
Please don’t fret, that’s most of us I am calling out.
You see, we like to stay comfortable. Do things within our limits and take it easy every day.
This goes for our work life too.
Remember when you first started recruitment and you inhaled all those KPIs, pushed yourself beyond the limits of your limits, brushed off rejection and kept pushing?
Every day was hard.
But then one day it all fell into place.
Not long afterwards, you made your first placement and then onto the next.
For every recruiter who is finding the market tough or going through a quiet period.
Remember, nothing was more demanding than your first 6 months.
This job has always been difficult, but somewhere along the way, you got used to a slower pace, and instead of chasing more placements, you started chasing pay rises instead.
Those at the top don’t complain about pay.
Now I’ll ask again… when was the last time you really ran?
